We always recommend factory finishing to our customers for several reasons. It protects all sides of the board’s surface, preventing trapped moisture for the lifetime of your project. An initial coating of penetrating oil maintains consistent color, whether you choose to maintain the original brown or allow your wood to age to silver. Factory finishing with penetrating oil also helps reduce checking and shaking over time. By conditioning the wood with penetrating oil, small imperfections that often occur over time are prevented.
