Thermory “is a no brainer”: An Interview With Accurate Millworks

When it comes to luxury custom millwork, precision is everything. And Accurate Millworks delivers—every time.

For years, builders like Sun West Custom Homes have trusted them to bring bold visions to life. Multiple The New American Home® (TNAH) projects, jaw-dropping kitchen ceilings, accent walls, custom sauna installations… they do it all. The secret? Craftsmanship that lasts.

Ready to see how they turn luxury into reality? We interviewed Stephen Andrews, Owner of Accurate Millwork, to get his take on how “memories are made with Thermory”, his method on making custom benches, what his dream sauna would look like, and a lot more. Keep reading!

  • You’ve completed multiple TNAH projects using Thermory—what stands out to you about the workability and performance of our materials in custom applications?

For all of our exterior applications, it really is a no-brainer. Given our relative humidity and UV index in Vegas, there has always been an issue with stability and longevity of wood products. And a few other perks are the compatibility with Cutek oil and the ease of application. I am also a big fan of the JEM Joint on the tongue and groove profiles; this really helps the guys out on the installation side of things compared to other methods of biscuits/glue/etc… As for workability, it is very friendly on machining and blades.

  • Can you walk us through a few standout design elements, like the recent curved bench shaped for comfort, and how Thermory’s characteristics supported that level of craftsmanship?

Chairs and benches can be difficult… We have all sat on a garden bench with a flat square top and begged for a cushion. I really tried to mix form and function on this bench piece by testing a few different profiles until I found a median that felt somewhat universal. I’m sure I looked like a loon walking up behind my shop neighbors with a plywood template, testing against their rump… But that is just what luxury seat manufacturing takes sometimes.

As for the Thermory benefit, ease of machining comes into play here again. All of the slats were pattern cut using a helical head pattern bit on one of our shapers. With 8/4 material, this can be a bit tedious in traditional hardwood- but, with the Thermory Benchmark Ash it was breeze. Actually, we will be constructing an additional 70′ of this style of bench for another client and are looking forward to working with Thermory again for this. Especially as it will be an outdoor application on the upcoming project.

  • What makes Thermory products a great fit for luxury environments like those in the Las Vegas market?

If I had to pick one quality, it would be stability. A big fight we battle in these environments is just keeping materials flat, true, and preventing cupping…. We have installed several hundred thousand feet of tongue and groove in the past few years, and Thermory is the product I never have to worry about. There is also something to be said for the consistency of color, and the fantastic customer service we receive from our partners over at (Thermory Distributor) Greenline West. When we all sat down to work on some of the design elements for TNAH, I was of the mindset of “It’s just wood, who says it can only be decking and T/G” this was really the mindset that spawned some of our accent walls and the bench design… It does what any wood does, just better.

  • You’ve mentioned plans to use Thermory in upcoming sauna builds—what excites you most about using our materials in that context, and what types of features or designs are you envisioning?

I actively use a sauna 3-4 days a week… I am an advocate for its uses and health benefits, and I am typically that annoying person that pushes it on strangers. One thing I have noticed in the current market, all the “Kit” Saunas are really lacking inspiration and a certain design element. There is no reason a sauna space cannot be as beautiful as the rest of your home, and I could not think of a better company to team up with in creating a sauna that brings artistry into the mix with functionality. If I had full design control and could build my own dream sauna, it would incorporate the following: a full glass ceiling or skylight, concentric-shaped geometric pattern wall slats… why are vertical or horizontal the only options? And comfortable benches—with a slightly slanted back and scalloped seat design, similar to TNAH25. The goal in every aspect of a home should be comfort and beauty, in a way that reflects the personality of the owner. This is where craftsmanship, along with durable, beautiful wood products, really stands out against the standard.

  • If someone asked why Thermory is your go-to for high-end, custom millwork, what would you tell them based on your experience?

Thermory USA provides products that I can be proud of. With the amount of labor, skill and design that goes into many of these homes, if you can’t say ‘This is the material I used, and I will keep using again and again’- you should not continue with that product. These are not starter homes; these are homes made to raise generations. You want your grandchildren to grow up playing on a bench that they decide to have re-created for their own home- and they won’t want anything less than the best… That’s what Thermory provides- wood products that are long lasting and durable even in the harshest conditions… while being easy to work with and beautiful. Memories are made with Thermory.

At Accurate Millworks, they don’t just build—they elevate. Custom millwork that stands out, lasts longer, and leaves a lasting impression. Whether it’s a statement wall, a sleek sauna, (or a custom bench!), they do it all.

If you’re a builder in the Vegas area who values precision and innovation, Accurate Millworks is your go-to. Partnering with purpose. Backed by Thermory.
