A Conversation with Ed Mikowski, Owner & President

We recently caught up with Ed Mikowski, Owner and President of Mount Storm, to talk about the company’s legacy and what Thermory has brought to their product lineup over the past 12 years.

What’s Mount Storm’s philosophy in business?

“To provide the best suited products for the specific application with the goal of keeping costs down,” says Mikowski. That simplicity and focus is what has kept their reputation strong for over four decades.

How would you best describe Thermory?

“Beautiful and easy to install,” he says. “Those qualities really matter to our customers—they want materials that not only look good but are practical to work with.”

What feedback do you hear most often from customers about Thermory?

“It is beautiful and every board is perfect,” Mikowski shares. That kind of consistency builds trust. 

Has Thermory helped Mount Storm push creative boundaries?

“Yes,” says Mikowski. “Thermory helps us stand out!”

Project Spotlight: Hatchway Home, California

While Mount Storm operates through a wholesale dealer network and doesn’t often see how the material is used, there are standout projects that rise to the surface. One notable installation is Hatchway Home, a Thermory Design Award winner that features our Benchmark Clear Pine cladding and Benchmark Pinedecking extensively. Designed by Robert Gabriel at Atelier CHALK, this modern coastal home is a masterpiece, set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. 

 “We may not know where every board ends up, but when we hear about projects like Hatchway Home or The Montage in Healdsburg, we know we’ve been a part of something special”, reflects Mikowski. 

Looking Ahead

When asked what his dream Thermory project might look like, Ed keeps it grounded:

“I’m not sure. They all look great!”
