When Snoop Dogg isn’t making magic in the studio or the screen, he’s using his fame and resources to uplift his community in Compton, California. For nearly two decades, his Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL) has been a beacon of hope for countless children, giving them a safe space to learn, grow, and prosper. But behind this league’s incredible success lies a key figure who’s been just as crucial to its growth—a man Snoop calls Commish.
As the league’s commissioner, Commish has dedicated over 17 years to shaping the SYFL into a powerful force for good. He’s the quiet backbone behind the scenes, offering mentorship, support, and a sense of family to the kids and families in Compton. His commitment to the community runs deep, and the difference he’s made is undeniable.
Yet, despite his immense impact, Commish’s own space remained humble—a basic two-car garage that he used to run league meetings and manage community work. It didn’t reflect the magnitude of his contributions or the respect he’d earned.
And that’s where Snoop and The Property Brothers stepped in.
A Friend’s Gift of Gratitude

This renovation takes place in a Season 2 episode of Celebrity IOU on HGTV, where Snoop Dogg wanted to show his friend that he deserved more than just a thank-you. He deserved a space that honored his years of hard work, sacrifice, and selflessness. As Snoop put it, “This is something I wanted to do for him to let him know I love him and I care about him.”
The project?
Transform Commish’s two-car garage into a multi-functional, luxurious retreat—a place that could serve as a home office, a relaxing getaway, and an inspirational space for Commish to continue his mission of giving back to the community.
Snoop’s vision was clear: “The Snoop Youth Football League is his baby. He helped bring that league to life,” Snoop shared. “His biggest need is to have some office space where he can do the meetings for the football league and community work that he does.”
Commish couldn’t help but express his gratitude for Snoop’s gesture. “This guy has done so much for me,” he said, referring to the legendary artist. And Snoop’s simple response? “That’s what friends are for.”
A Labor of Love and Friendship
For years, Commish had been running the Snoop Youth Football League out of his home, managing everything from practice schedules to community outreach—all while balancing his own family life. But as Snoop explained, the league’s success wasn’t just about football—it was about helping families in need.
“Parents didn’t have the finances or the ability to drive their kids to practice,” Snoop recalled. “The kids didn’t have the scholastics to do football and their schoolwork. That’s why I started the league.”
Commish was right by his side, using his deep-rooted connections in the community to get things off the ground. “With his name and star power and my connections to the community, I just went to work, and our bond got stronger and stronger,” Commish said, reflecting on how their partnership blossomed.
Ignite by Thermory Provides a Timeless Touch

Snoop had a vision: “It needs to feel executive,” he said, emphasizing a design that was both functional and stylish. And so, the garage was transformed from a basic work area into an elevated space complete with a state-of-the-art kitchen, spacious living and dining areas, a boardroom, a bathroom and shower (Snoop’s idea!) and even a patio for entertaining.
As part of the transformation, the design team used Ignite by Thermory to clad the exterior of the new space—a subtle yet powerful nod to both the contemporary and timeless. The deep, rich black of Ignite, which is inspired by the Japanese shou sugi ban technique, gave the structure a modern, sophisticated look while ensuring durability and minimal maintenance.
The exterior cladding of Ignite added a distinctive touch to the building, creating an aesthetic that was both bold and refined, perfect for hosting guests or enjoying a peaceful evening. The beauty of Ignite lies in its long-lasting durability, making it the ideal material for a space meant to inspire and endure.
A Space Built on Love and Legacy
Snoop’s goal wasn’t just to give Commish a beautiful new office; he wanted to create a space where Commish could continue his work of giving back to the community, a place where he could unwind and recharge. This wasn’t just about design—it was about honoring a friendship, a partnership, and a shared mission to uplift others.
“It’s a brotherhood. It’s not about fame or success. It’s a shared passion,” Snoop said. “Commish is a giver. Anytime you have someone who does more giving than receiving, you’ve got to do something for them to let them understand what they do for people. He inspires a lot of people, so I wanted to give him something that he can be inspired by.”
For Commish, the renovation was an overwhelming expression of love. “I feel honored and blessed,” he said, knowing that this was a gesture that would carry forward the values they’ve worked to instill in the youth of Compton.
At the heart of it all, this project was about giving back. It was a gift of recognition, an appreciation of all that Commish had done, and a celebration of his unwavering dedication to the community. Snoop wanted to show him that the work he’d done for others had been noticed and valued.
Giving Back, One Step at a Time

This project is more than just a home renovation. It’s a reminder of the power of friendship, community, and the impact that one person can have on the lives of many. Through the Snoop Youth Football League, Snoop and Commish have given countless kids the tools to succeed—not just in sports, but in life. They’ve created a space for families to come together, to support each other, and to build something bigger than themselves.
Snoop’s gift to Commish was a way to say thank you, but also a way to show him that his contributions haven’t gone unnoticed. “Now it’s time for him to have a space of his own—a place to recharge, a place to celebrate, and a place to keep making a difference for the community we both love,” Snoop said.
And so, through the renovation of a simple garage, a space was created that will continue to inspire and serve for years to come. Thank you, Property Brothers, for including Thermory in this remarkable project!
