At Thermory, we take pride in not only delivering beautiful, high-performance wood products but also in ensuring that our processes meet the highest standards of sustainability, quality, and environmental responsibility.
Our commitment to excellence goes beyond aesthetics—it extends into rigorous testing, internationally recognized certifications, and a sustainable sourcing strategy. In this article, we’ll dive into the various testing methods, certifications, and sustainability practices that make Thermory a trusted choice for eco-conscious consumers and professionals.
Sustainable Sourcing: FSC & PEFC Certifications
Sustainability is a cornerstone of Thermory’s ethos. We believe that environmental responsibility begins with sourcing raw materials that are harvested responsibly.
In fact, 98% of our softwood is certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), two of the most recognized forest certification systems globally. These certifications ensure that the wood we use is sustainably sourced, promoting responsible forest management, biodiversity conservation, and forest regeneration.
Our sustainability journey doesn’t stop at sourcing! We’re actively working to reduce our carbon footprint and enhance our environmental performance. In 2023, we achieved a 12% reduction in our total Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions compared to our benchmark year of 2021. We know this is just the beginning—we’re continuously striving to do better.
Rigorous Quality Assurance: Third-Party Testing & ISO Certification

Our products undergo thorough testing and certification from several reputable third-party organizations, ensuring that every piece of wood that leaves our facilities meets the highest industry standards. Here are some key quality certifications that we hold:
- ISO Certification: This internationally recognized standard verifies that our operations are consistent, efficient, and continually improving. It covers every aspect of our production, from raw material sourcing to the final product.
- Nordic Swan Eco Label: A symbol of sustainability, the Nordic Eco Label is granted to products that meet strict environmental criteria. Thermory’s products are tested and certified to ensure that they meet these standards for eco-friendly manufacturing, use, and disposal.
- FSC & PEFC: These certifications are integral to our commitment to sustainability. They guarantee that our wood is responsibly sourced, supporting the long-term health of forests around the world.
Additionally, Thermory’s Benchmark Ash Cladding and Decking products are WUI (Wildland Urban Interface) Certified, specifically approved for use in areas where residential development meets undeveloped wildland. This certification is granted by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), ensuring that our materials meet stringent fire-resistant standards required in wildfire-prone zones.
Thermory Benchmark Ash products carry a Class B flame spread rating, meaning they are moderately resistant to flame spread. This rating is based on rigorous testing according to Protocol SFM-12-7A-4A, a fire performance standard developed by the California Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). Approval for WUI use signifies that our decking and cladding materials are suitable for environments with the strictest fire safety requirements, giving homeowners and builders confidence in their durability and safety in high-risk areas.
Health & Environmental Certifications: LBC, HPD & EPD

Thermory products also meet stringent environmental and health standards, ensuring they are safe for both the environment and the people who use them. We are proud to be compliant with several advanced certifications:
- Living Building Challenge (LBC) Red Free List: The LBC is one of the most rigorous sustainability programs in the world, focusing on building products that support human health and the environment. Thermory products are fully compliant with the Red Free List, which ensures they are free from harmful chemicals and meet the highest sustainability benchmarks.
- Health Product Declaration (HPD): This voluntary disclosure program provides transparency on the materials used in a product, allowing consumers to make informed choices about the health and environmental impact of their purchases. Thermory’s HPD ensures that our products meet high standards for human health, safety, and sustainability.
- Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): An EPD is a comprehensive report that details the environmental impact of a product throughout its lifecycle, from sourcing to disposal. Thermory’s EPD confirms that our wood products are produced with minimal environmental impact and meet stringent sustainability goals.
These certifications offer customers peace of mind, knowing that Thermory products are not only environmentally responsible but also free of harmful chemicals and safe for use in all types of indoor or outdoor projects.
Sustainability: Our Driving Force
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We are embracing advanced practices across every aspect of our operations, from automating and digitalizing production processes to implementing ISO certifications and Lean manufacturing programs. Our factories are evolving into modern, smart facilities that prioritize circular design, sustainable energy, and efficiency. We are also expanding our team, creating new roles like Environmental Manager and Lean Specialist to ensure continuous progress.
In addition, we are committed to maximizing the value of every resource by doing more with less. Through advanced technologies, we optimize material usage and reduce waste. Even offcuts and shorter wood pieces are repurposed into premium, functional products like our Shingles thermo-ash cladding, Herringbone modular decking, and Decor Rhomb thermo-ash tiles. Additionally, we convert production residues into energy, further lowering our environmental impact.
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our internal practices; we align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the ESG framework to guide our decisions. By working closely with our suppliers, customers, and partners, we are reducing emissions across the entire value chain.
Thermory’s dedication to a sustainable future is more than just business—it’s our shared responsibility. Together, we can create a lasting positive impact on the planet and build a healthier, more sustainable world for future generations.
