Why Thermory? – Advanced Technology, Powering a Revolution

At Thermory, we believe that technology isn’t just about machinery—it’s about transforming potential into performance. That’s why we continue to invest in advanced tools and intelligent systems that elevate our craft, ensuring unmatched quality, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. But what truly sets us apart isn’t just the equipment—it’s the people behind it and the principles guiding every decision we make.

Behind the Scenes: Precision That Drives Quality

Our production process is powered by a suite of cutting-edge machinery, including high-capacity multi-head molders, CNC automated arms, and precision-controlled X-ray scanning technology. These tools help us meet the highest standards for dimensional accuracy, performance, and sustainability.

But let’s take a closer look—because not all “advanced” technology is created equal.

“Multi-head molders are the industry standard today—they machine all sides of the lumber simultaneously and are essential for efficient production. To truly stand out, Thermory continues to invest in technologies that take wood processing to the next level.”

— Jake Mingle, Thermory USA Warehouse Lead

While tools like multi-head molders and CNC arms are essential to modern woodworking, they’re no longer rare. The real differentiator lies in how we use technology to push boundaries—and one piece of equipment truly stands out.

Seeing What Others Miss: The Power of X-ray Scanning

At our Reola factory in Estonia, we’ve implemented two state-of-the-art X-ray wood scanners. This advanced system goes beyond surface-level inspection. It’s a game-changer in ensuring the highest possible quality in our thermal wood products.

Here’s how it works:

  • X-ray Scanning: Penetrates deep into the wood to detect internal flaws such as knots, voids, splits, or decay.

  • Laser and Optical Cameras: Identify surface defects and shape irregularities with precision.

  • Moisture Sensors: Ensure consistency in moisture levels—critical for the thermal modification process.

  • AI-Powered Algorithms: Grade lumber in real time and mark serious defects for removal using digital coordinates.

“Our scanners do more than just sort lumber. They’re used to detect and mark large defects so that our boards remain as long as possible. A board with minor flaws might still serve beautifully in a wall, while a perfect but short board is only useful for furniture. We’re focused on maximizing utility—not just appearance.”

— Hannes Tarn, Head of Development, Thermory AS

This technology empowers us to reduce material waste while producing longer, more functional boards that meet our high standards of performance.

More Than Machinery: A Culture of Innovation

Our focus on innovation doesn’t end with new machinery. We’ve built a culture of continuous improvement. In 2022, we launched a QR-based idea submission system at our Estonian facilities, inviting employees to contribute their insights on improving production and efficiency.

The result? Over 1,100 ideas submitted, with 68% implemented by the end of 2023.

This grassroots innovation model enables us to fine-tune everything from logistics to environmental impact—fueled by the people who know the work best.

Sustainable Tech, Smart Results

Our commitment to advanced technology is matched by our responsibility to the planet. From thermokilns powered by renewable energy to intelligent systems that reduce waste, we’re continually upgrading our processes to lower our environmental footprint.

While competitors may now adopt similar kilns or equipment, our edge lies in decades of operational experience—the know-how to get the most from every tool, every cycle, every board.

Why Thermory?

Because our technology isn’t just advanced—it’s thoughtful, responsible, and driven by a mission to build a better future.

Whether it’s an X-ray scanner that sees the invisible or a suggestion box that fuels innovation, our commitment to excellence is evident in every board we ship. If you’re eager to build something lasting, beautiful, and sustainable – we’re ready when you are
